FOODCYCLE

logosm
October 8th, 2011 by Philip Dundas

I am so delighted to support the work of FoodCycle a social enterprise challenging the major issues of food waste in the UK. FoodCycle combines volunteers, surplus food and a free kitchen space to create nutritious meals and positive social change in the community. FoodCycle works hard to empower local communities to set up groups of volunteers to collect surplus produce locally and prepare nutritious meals in unused professional kitchen spaces. These delicious meals are then served to those in need in the community.

We’ve been working together on a couple of awareness and fundraising projects now and I love the vigour and enthusiasm of the young volunteers who put so much passion into everything they do. We ran an event together for MIND in January for Blue Monday (supposedly when most people are at their lowest ebb) and I’m doing some cooking lessons to raise money to keep one of the FoodCycle Cafes in London open.

It’s a pleasure to work for a charity who put so much into helping me to help them. Which isn’t as easy as it sounds.
